Sketching is Fun & Excitement
A sketch is a freehand design that is not intended as a finished work. It is used to quickly record an idea so it could be used in future for a bigger and a meaningful sketch. Artists usually sketch when they have a vague idea in their minds and they need to complete it and the completion would require corrections and would be time consuming. Students who are on their way of learning arts mostly rely on sketching before doing a big picture as sketching helps sharpen their capabilities and make it easy for them to know the important elements of a subject. Sketching is referred to as the loose drawing of a subject which can be further transformed in to a finished idea.
The most important tool for a designer is sketching. Sketching serves many purposes – it helps the artist dig out new ideas from his mind and refine the vague ideas in to a complete one. It is a kind of brainstorming for an artist and put his thoughts in greater depths. With the help of a sketch, an artist can share his ideas in an initial stage before transforming them in to finished ones. Sketching is the best way to communicate ideas on the paper. It helps the artist sketch an idea as it comes in his mind instantly before he forgets it. Generally, an artist uses a graphite pencil for sketching and a special prepared paper known as silverpoint. Artists also use erasers while sketching which helps them in removing thick, construction lines and to make the visual effect softer. Hence, the eraser is known as a kneaded eraser which is a smudge free eraser and helps the artist lift the charcoal or graphite from the sketching.
Nowadays, recording the instant designs on sketch paper has found out to be very purposeful. Sketchers also draw sketched of people who are wanted and are called composite sketchers. These help the concerned authorities to find out the location of the person or let the public know that the person is wanted so they would remain beware and also inform the authorities if the person is seen or reported.
In order to further clarify the sketched idea, artists also take help of colors as it reinforces the design intent. Artists use color pencils, markers, crayons, oil pastels, oil paints, water colors etc. It up to the artist to decide which kind of paint will suit the best. An artist can also mix all these colors and give a wonderful effect to the sketch!
